The hidden cost of meetings nobody measures: the fragmentation. A 30 minute meeting at 2pm does not cost 30 minutes, it costs the two hours around it. We moved all meetings to Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and shipping velocity went up without anyone working more hours.

What came back

  • Post 1: a 30 minute meeting at 2pm does not cost you 30 minutes. it costs you the two hours around it, because nobody starts deep work with a meeting looming. that gap is the real price and almost nobody measures it.
  • Post 2: deep work needs a runway. if you know you have to stop in 90 minutes for a call, you don't start the thing that takes 3 hours of unbroken focus. you do email instead. the meeting didn't just take its slot, it ate everything around it.
  • Post 3: one meeting in the morning and one in the afternoon can wreck an entire day. not because of 60 minutes of meetings, but because the day gets cut into two pieces too small for anything hard.
  • Post 4: we moved every single meeting to tuesday and thursday afternoons. monday, wednesday, friday, and every morning became meeting free by default.
  • Post 5: shipping velocity went up. not because anyone worked longer hours, but because people finally had stretches of time long enough to actually build something without checking the clock.
  • Post 6: the fix wasn't fewer meetings. we didn't cut headcount on calendars, we just stopped scattering them across the week. same number of meetings, way less fragmentation.
  • Post 7: if your team feels busy but slow, check the calendar before you check the workload. count how many days have zero meeting free stretches longer than 2 hours. that number explains more than you think.

When to use it

Use this when you have one idea big enough for a thread and do not want to spend an hour breaking it into posts. It splits your material so each post carries one clear point and can stand on its own, since most people will only ever see one of them.

Common questions

How many posts should a thread be?
The slider sets a rough target and the tool works to it, but the honest answer is as many as the idea needs. Padding a thread to hit a number is the most common way to make a good idea boring. If your notes only support four posts, set it to four.
Does it write for X or LinkedIn differently?
Yes. X posts are built to the character limit with each one able to stand alone, since replies get seen out of context. A LinkedIn thread is really a sequence of longer posts and is written accordingly, with more room per point.
Will the first post work as a hook?
It is written to. The opening post carries the whole decision about whether anyone reads the rest, so it states the point rather than teasing it. If you want to try other angles, the Social Media Hook Writer gives you three alternatives.
Is it free?
You can run it three times a day with no account. Signing in gives you renewing monthly credits, and this tool costs one credit per run with the one-click refinements included.
