Announcement

Wren is here! She was born on August 2, 7lb 4oz. It was a long labour and both Marguerite and I are pretty wrecked, but she and Wren are doing well and we're home now. We're not up for visitors for a couple of weeks while we figure out what we're doing, but we'll share photos soon.

When to use it

Use this to share personal news properly: a baby, an engagement, a move, a new job. It writes the announcement plus a short version for the group chat, and it will hold any boundaries you set, like not wanting visitors yet.

Common questions

Can I ask people not to visit yet?
Yes, and it is worth putting in. The example keeps the no-visitors-for-a-fortnight line, stated warmly, because saying it once in the announcement is far easier than declining twenty individual offers over the following week.
Why two versions?
Because a group chat and a public post are different rooms. The short one is for people who already know you and want the facts. The longer one carries a bit more of the moment. Sending the long version to a group chat reads oddly, and the reverse feels curt.
How much detail should I share?
Only what you would be comfortable with a stranger reading, particularly for anything going on social media. It will not add detail you did not give it, and personal news is a place where less almost always ages better.
Is it free?
You can run it three times a day with no account. Signing in gives you renewing monthly credits, and this tool costs one credit per run with the one-click refinements included.
