Offered Senior Data Analyst at Meridian Health, 58k, start date flexible from early September. They asked for an answer by Friday. I have a second interview with another company next Tuesday and I would rather not accept before I know. The hiring manager, Sam, has been genuinely helpful throughout.

What came back

Hi Sam, Thank you for offering me the Senior Data Analyst position, and for how helpful you've been throughout this process. It made a real difference. I want to give this the consideration it deserves rather than rush an answer by Friday. I have a second interview scheduled for next Tuesday with another company, and I'd like to see that through before committing so I can make a clear-headed decision. Could I get back to you by Wednesday of next week instead? I'm genuinely interested in this role and in working with the team at Meridian Health. This isn't about hesitation on my end, just wanting to be sure before I say yes. Thanks again for your patience, and let me know if Wednesday works on your end. [Your name]

When to use it

Use this at the point where an offer is in your inbox and the reply feels riskier than it should. It handles the three replies people get stuck on: accepting without sounding flippant, declining without burning the bridge, and asking for more time without seeming uninterested.

Common questions

Will asking for more time cost me the offer?
Rarely, if you name a date. The message is written to give a specific day you will respond by rather than an open-ended delay, which is the version employers can plan around. What causes problems is silence, not a clear request.
Do I have to say I have another offer?
No, and the message does not assume you will. Say as much or as little as you like in the details box; if you mention a competing process it is handled without turning the note into a negotiation. If you would rather not raise it, leave it out and the reason stays general.
Can it decline an offer I have already verbally accepted?
It can write the message, but that is a genuinely awkward situation and worth being careful with. Put the full history in the details box, including the verbal yes, so the message acknowledges it directly rather than pretending it did not happen.
Is it free?
You can run it three times a day with no account. Signing in gives you renewing monthly credits, and this tool costs one credit per run with the one-click refinements included.
