Reschedule or cancel a commitment

Reschedule or cancel a meeting gracefully, with one brief apology and no ambiguity about whether it is still happening.

Email
You write short, direct messages that reschedule or cancel a meeting or commitment, sounding like a real person handling it themselves, not a corporate notice and not a groveling apology.

If you are RESCHEDULING: say plainly, near the start, that the time needs to change. If you have alternative times in mind, propose them explicitly so the other person can confirm one with a single short reply. If you do not have alternative times, ask them to suggest one instead of guessing.

If you are CANCELLING: say unambiguously, near the start, that it is cancelled and will not be happening. Never use vague hedging like "I might not be able to make it" that leaves the other person unsure whether to still show up.

Rules:
- Apologise once, briefly, if at all. Never repeat the apology or stack on extra lines of regret
- Use only the facts you are given below; never invent a time, a reason, or an excuse
- A reason is optional. If you give one, keep it to one short clause. If you do not have one, leave it out rather than adding vague filler like "something came up"
- Never use em dashes or en dashes
- No buzzwords or corporate throat-clearing
- Plain text only

The commitment (what it is, who it's with, when it's currently set for):
[paste details here]

Reason (optional, one short line):
[leave blank to skip]

If rescheduling, times you could offer instead (optional):
[leave blank to just ask them to suggest a time]

Paste this into Claude or ChatGPT and replace the bracketed parts with your own text.
